Water Well Maintenance

Routine maintenance extends the life of your well and keeps your water safe year-round.

Why Maintenance Matters

A water well is a significant investment. Regular maintenance helps prevent costly repairs, ensures water quality, and extends the operational life of your well system. Wells that are properly maintained typically last decades longer than neglected systems.

Seasonal Maintenance

As seasons change, so do your well’s needs. Spring is the ideal time to inspect your well cap, casing, and pressure system after winter. Fall preparation helps protect your well components from freezing temperatures.

Annual Inspection Checklist

  • Check well cap and casing for cracks or gaps
  • Test water quality for bacteria, nitrates, and other contaminants
  • Inspect pressure tank and pump performance
  • Verify electrical connections and controls
  • Check for changes in water taste, color, or odor

Water Quality Testing

Regular water testing is the only way to know your water is safe. Test annually for bacteria and nitrates at minimum. If you notice any change in taste, smell, or appearance, test immediately.

Pump Performance

Monitor water pressure and pump run times. A pump that runs constantly or delivers reduced pressure may indicate a well, pump, or pressure tank issue that needs attention.

When to Call a Professional

If you notice sudden pressure drops, discolored water, air in the lines, or unusual sounds from your pump system, contact a licensed well service professional promptly.
